Who we are…

We are sisters passionate about rediscovering new things and exploring the world, no matter how big or small the exploration. We are excited to share our Push platform to grow the community and foster motivation through accountability, which we believe is the secret ingredient for success.

Karen

about-push-momentsI am married and we have an adorable dog (Hailey). We have made San Diego our home and are thankful for this beautiful area. I have worked as a nurse for 30 years, with the majority of that time in the operating room. I transitioned from the operating room to an out-patient setting helping those struggling with the disease of obesity.

Through my nursing experience, I have learned how short and unfair life can be and the value of health. Enhancing communities and bringing people together is something I have always enjoyed.  This passion is one of the inspirations which lead to PUSH.

As for hobbies, hiking (or just about any activity done in nature) is on the top of my list and I can never resist a good cup of coffee.

Brenda

about-push-momentsI live in San Francisco with my husband and two children.  Pets have always been a big part of my life and we currently have one dog, Pirate.  My children keep me quite busy with their day-to-day activities.  Seeing how fast they are growing up is a big reminder of the importance of valuing time.

Teaching is my passion and I have spent my career as an elementary school teacher. I understand the importance of lifelong learning, which is part of my inspiration of Push.  I enjoy reading a good book, taking a walk, and most any type of leisure.

We feel our story wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t mention our entire family. We have always been a close family and really enjoy our times together.

Our parents were great role models for showing the importance of being a life learner. Our mother at age 92 continues to learn and try new things. We also have an older brother and sister, who have supported us.

The History of the Road to Push

This endeavor started many decades ago back in 1998. My sister and I got together and developed an idea that we called “The Game.” The premise of The Game was to accomplish personal goals and try new things.  The game was about doing your “bucket list” which was not even a coined word phrase yet. The Game was a bit complicated and each participant needed to do 1 “major” and 3 “minor” activities.

We gathered a diverse group of friends all living in various cities. Each participant had a partner to help hold them accountable. The Game was short-lived but we learned two very valuable lessons. The feeling after you push yourself to do something new is exhilarating and accountability is key for keeping people motivated and engaged.

Many years later, we redesigned the game using the basic premise from The Game and created “No Regrets.” No Regrets had a very similar concept with one addition. No Regrets, promoted acts of kindness, that was called a “generous gesture” in addition to personal goals.  We designed it more like a traditional game that one would purchase in a box. There were invitations, idea books, and journals. The idea was to have monthly “No Regret” gatherings, similar to having a monthly book club. The goal was to do one “personal goal” and one “generous gesture” per month to discuss at the No Regrets party.

No Regrets never materialized past the mock version. We conceded to the usual story… life got busy and the everyday juggling won. However, much was gained from these experiences and we have found memories doing “out of the box” activities such as taking a trapeze class, running a marathon, learning to play the flute, and so on. As life continued, we realized that big actions are not needed to create a spark in your life. Simple diversions in routines can bring newness and a fresh outlook. This was validated through countless studies that confirm the health benefits of getting out of your routine in some fashion.

Fast forward to today’s world. We now have technology and a new virtual norm on our side. Knowing accountability is a needed ingredient for success, Push Moments was created. Tapping into the exciting virtual platform is a fabulous way to unite a like-minded community, to live their life to the fullest capacity.

My sister and I have always lived in separate cities, so we like a platform that we can use to do things together although physically apart. We so believe in this concept and want to share with others to help positively affect lives. With life being so busy and fast moving, doing a Push helps to slow us down a bit to be more present and keeps life continuously fresh.
